Review Description

The long-term stability and safety of polymeric vascular grafts, particularly those made of polyurethane, have been a major concern due to biodegradation problems and biocompatibility issues. This review aims to provide an overview of the development history, performance characteristics, and current status of polyurethane vascular grafts. Specifically, it focuses on the biological performance issues associated with polyurethane materials used in artificial vascular applications. Additionally, the review outlines various surface modification methods that have been employed to improve the biocompatibility of polyurethane and discusses the advancements made in the process technology of new polyurethane vessels. By utilizing modification strategies, polyurethane has been transformed from an inert material to a bioactive material. Furthermore, electrospinning technology has further enhanced the performance of polyurethane in vascular applications. Finally, the potential of polyurethane materials for clinical applications in vascular medicine is evaluated.
