Article Description

Two-dimensional (2D) V 2 O 3 nanosheets embedded in carbon matrix (V 2 O 3 /C) were successfully synthesized through direct thermal decomposition of a mixture containing V 2 O 5 and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) at 450 °C for 3 h in N 2 atmosphere. Thanks to the synergistic effect between the expected 2D structural characteristics of V 2 O 3 and the high conductivity of carbon, the V 2 O 3 /C achieved an impressive cyclic stability with 104 mAh·g −1 capacity retention after 4000 cycles at 10 A·g −1, a 489 mAh·g −1 high specific capacity at 1 A·g −1, as well as an outstanding rate capability. Additionally, we have successfully lit up light-emitting diode (LED) with Zn//V 2 O 3 /C battery, making it a prospective candidate for environmentally-friendly, high-performance, and low-cost energy storage device.
