Article Description

This research study examines the significant contribution of Titanium carbide (TiC) thin film coatings on the electrochemical corrosion properties of Ti6Al4V substrate. TiC thin films coatings were deposited on Ti6Al4V substrates using RF magnetron sputtering. The surface morphology of the coatings was investigated using Field emission scanning electron microscope. Potentiodynamic polarization and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopic measurements were performed to determine the TiC thin film corrosion resistant effectiveness. The result revealed that the TiC thin film improves the corrosion resistance of the Ti6Al4V substrates, and the protective efficiency of the TiC thin film coatings depend on the surface morphology of the coating and the interaction between the sputtering process parameters.
