Review Description

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) denote a group of infections that are predominantly spread via sexual contact because of the close interface of mucosal surfaces during vaginal, anal or oral sex. However, they can also be spread vertically from mother to child during pregnancy or childbirth, and some through contaminated blood or blood products. Most STIs present either as a genital ulcer or with a change in vaginal or urethral discharge. However, it is important to consider systemic manifestations of STIs. This article summarizes the systemic presentation of common STIs.
