Article Description
Tricyclic antidepressants have many side effects in the doses given for antidepression; however, they have been used in treating chronic pain. Unfortunately, not all of the TCAs have been investigated in scientific studies that have verified their efficacy in treating chronic pain. Because all TCAs work on the same basic amine pump theory, differentiating which agent should be used depends on the degree of sedation and anticholingeric effects tolerated by the patient.
