Article Description

We studied the action of chlorophyllase (Chlase), prepared from the alga Phaeodactylum tricornutum, on chloroplasts and chlorophyll-protein complexes isolated from spinach. In the presence of 0.05 % Triton X-100, essentially all of the chlorophyll (Chl) was hydrolyzed. Without detergent, only about 40 % of the Chl in osmotically-shocked chloroplasts was converted to chlorophyllide (Chlide).
