We disclose herein a monoimidazolium skeleton 1 with an aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristic. This fluorogenic skeleton exhibited high selectivity and fluorescence turn-on for HPO in acetonitrile and ClO in water. © 2014 The Partner Organisations.
