Article Description

Inclusion complex formation between the conducting polymer, polyaniline (PANI), and the molecular nanotube was studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The AFM observation showed rodlike structures on a mica substrate where the mixture of PANI and the molecular nanotube was spin-coated at room temperature. From the length and height of the structure, it was identified with the inclusion complex between PANI and the molecular nanotube. PANI was fully covered by the molecular nanotubes. The long persistence length of the inclusion complex indicated that PANI formed trans configuration owing to confinement in the very small cavity of the molecular nanotube.
