Article Description
The perturbation approach was used for the presentation of an analytical expression for the tunneling-escape lifetime of an electron occupying quantum state localized in a quantum well in a heterostructure. An orthogonal basis set of wave functions was used in the derivation and all the terms in the perturbation expansion were included. It was found that the tunneling lifetimes obtained by the present formulation agreed with those obtained by the complex energy method.
