Article Description

We demonstrate the cancellation and dynamic modulation of the Casimir force by using transparent electrodes and radiation pressure. The attractive Casimir force between the two surfaces is balanced by radiation pressure on the first surface from light transmitted through the second transparent surface. The cancellation and dynamic modulation of dispersion forces will find applications in the design and enhanced performance of micro- and nanoelectro mechanical systems. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.
