Article Description

The motion of 2D crystallites adsorbed on the surface of a solid is possible by gain and loss of individual atoms. Two non-independent processes have to be considered: variation of the size of the cluster and translation of the centre of gravity of the cluster. Rates of gain and loss of atoms by the crystallites are assumed to depend on the size of the cluster. S(q, w) is calculated on this basis. By assuming a more restrictive model, it is shown that the dependence is approximately lorentzian with a width proportional to q. © 1983 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
