Review Description

Obesity has become a global problem. This problem is associated with a worldwide rising incidence of noncommunicable, chronic diseases. In countries with lower Gross National Products obesity tends to be a problem of the affluent. In those with high Gross National Products it tends to be a problem of those of lower socioeconomic status. The worldwide consequences of global obesity are devastating. This article addresses the scope, consequences, and etiology of the global obesity epidemic along with a comprehensive approach for combating this worldwide problem. In addition, ideas are given as to how dietitians, who have the training related to food and nutrition to be an asset in addressing global obesity, can become involved in combating this problem.
