Article Description

On the application of pressure at 300 K, (Formula presented) ((Formula presented)-type hexagonal at STP) exhibits an isostructural transition at around 5.5 GPa. Later it undergoes a phase transition from hexagonal to orthorhombic structure at 12 GPa and then to tetragonal at about 25 GPa. This pressure-induced structural sequence is observed rarely for an (Formula presented)-type f-electron system. Comparison is made to existing structural data. © 1996 The American Physical Society.
