Article Description

A novel SnO-Sb nanorods anode with Ti sheet as substrate (Ti/SnO-Sb-NRs) was prepared through hydrothermal process. The Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the contact angle meter were used to characterize the physicochemical properties of the anodes. Additionally, the electrochemical properties and the stability were further studied by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA) measurements and accelerated life test, respectively. These results indicated that Ti/SnO-Sb-NRs anode possessed SnO-Sb-NRs which were about 70 nm in width, as well as a better wettability, a lower charge transfer resistance, a larger current at constant potential and a longer lifetime than the conventional Ti/SnO-Sb anode prepared by pulse electro-deposition. And the existence of direct oxidation on Ti/SnO-Sb-NRs anode was confirmed. Electrochemical degradation of Acid Red 73 (AR 73) was investigated to study the electro-catalytic oxidation performance of the anodes. And the results showed that SnO-Sb-NRs remarkably improved the degradation of AR 73, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency and the adsorption capacity on Ti/SnO-Sb-NRs anode, which was probably due to the synergetic effects of SnO-Sb-NRs.
