Conference Paper Description

Measurements of hyperspectral solar irradiance from aircraft and satellite are applied to a variety of cloud and aerosol remote sensing, and radiative energy budget applications. The direct retrievals of cloud effective radius and optical thickness are compared with more standard methods from MODIS and the MODIS Airborne Simulator. Retrievals of cloud properties in the vicinity of elevated aerosol loading are examined for potential biases in cloud retrievals. Aerosol spectral radiative forcing efficiency is derived from airborne measurements in regions of gradients in aerosol optical depth. Finally, the variability in solar spectral irradiance measured during SORCE is used to derive differential heating in the lower atmosphere. © 2007 OSA.
