Effect of Polypropylene Fibers and Wire Mesh on Fire Performance of Precast Concrete Walls

FULL TEXT The effect of polypropylene (PP) fibers and wire mesh on the spalling resistance of precast concrete load-bearing wall exposed to fire is investigated

Article Description

The effect of polypropylene (PP) fibers and wire mesh on the spalling resistance of precast concrete load-bearing wall exposed to fire is investigated in this study through a series of fire tests. The load-bearing walls with varying proportions of PP fibers in the concrete mixture in conjunction with the installation of wire mesh were exposed to ISO 834-1 standard fire on one side for the target heating duration of 180 minutes. It is found that the use of PP fibers can effectively increase the spalling resistance of the walls, while the installation of wire mesh has a negative impact on the overall fire performance of the walls.
