Article Description

Dilthey's understanding of the historical through "reexistence" converges with Collingwood's idea of re-enactment in Collingwood's theory of historical imagination through the shared notion of autognosis. This self-knowledge constitutes the primary activity of historical understanding and is carried out by the individual who understands according to the vital and sociohistorical meanings of his time. It analyzes, then, what is the role of self-awareness in human knowledge, taking into account the differences between the Psychology of both thinkers.
