Paper Description

Since the time of Aristotle, the concept of "mixed government" has focused on discussions of democracy, aristocracy, and monarchy. The intent of the presented research is to provide a case within the literature of classical political philosophy for the inclusion of discussions regarding the federalist structure of states. My argument is predicated on the continuous theme that exists throughout all discussion of mixed government; the emphasis placed upon the necessity of balances and checks upon the emergence of tyranny or anarchy. It is my contention that such concerns make the inclusion of a discussion regarding the legitimacy of unitary and federal government structures particularly relevant.
